Curriculum Vitae

(last updated 2016-08)

Education

Masters from University of Jyväskylä, Department of Physics in 2008-08.

Main subject: applied physics
Secondary subjects: mathematics, computer science

Thesis: Analytical and numerical evaluation of errors in axial ultrasound measurement with an array transduer - Concerns analysis of error sources in a proprietary axial transmission ultrasound measurement system arising from both geometrical problems and electronic noise sources. The former is performed by simple math and the latter by stressing the analysis algorithms by Monte Carlo simulations and an increasing amplitude of artificially generated noise.

Doctor of Philosphy from University of Jyväskylä, Department of Physics in 2014-12.

Main subject: applied physics
Secondary subjects: mathematics, computer science

Thesis: Ultrasound measurements in bone using an array transducer - In addition to analyzing the results of a large in vivo study using an array transducer axial ultrasound device, this thesis includes development of more robust algorithms for guided wave speed of sound analysis and investigations on various ways to benefit from phased array transmitters in a guided wave measurement.

Work experience

2015-08 to 2016-08 - BSRT in Charité, university hospital in Berlin. Post-doc researcher working in Kay Raum's group. Measurement system development, data analysis and master and Ph.D. student guidance.

2015-01 to 2015-07 - University of Jyväskylä, Department of Physics, researcher. As previously, but also conference organization (everything from arranging catering to website design and abstract book creation).

2008-08 to 2014-12 - University of Jyväskylä, Department of Physics, Ph.D. student and researcher. Mainly measurement system development and data analysis.

2003-06 to 2008-07 - University of Jyväskylä, Department of Health Sciences and University of Jyväskylä, Department of Physics, part-time research assistant as an undergraduate student. Measurements of both in vivo subjects and phantoms using a pQCT device and an axial ultrasound scanner, and use of other medical measurement technology (DXA, microCT, heel ultrasound scanners, etc). Also data analysis and assisting measurement system development.

In all of the above tasks, various forms of signal processing, image processing and statistical methods have been in heavy use. For the development of data analysis tools and measurement system interfaces, an extensive programming background has also been necessary.

Other

Military service as an assault pioneer in Vekaranjärvi, 2001-II.
AB driver's licence.

Miscellaneous work

Participation in various demoscene projects since 2002 (GitHub, pouët). Responsibilities have mainly been procedural and manual graphics generation and relevant math.

Hobbies of interest (related or unrelated)

Gym, demoscene, games, literature, movies and interactive storytelling. I'm also fond of the typical do-it-yourself -spirit. For example, I like to build my own arcade controllers and some of my own furniture.
